- BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS
Epidemiology & Population Health Program

STATUS: This position is a temporary full-time one-year contract with the possibility of renewal

JOB START DATE: As soon as possible

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
Minimum: $60,427
Maximum: $75,533

BENEFITS: medical, dental, vacation, sick leave

LOCATION: BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE), Vancouver, BC

ORGANIZATION: The BC-CfE is a renowned HIV/AIDS research Centre with integrated research concentrations in the areas of Epidemiology, Health Economics, Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Trials, and Professional Education Programs. A multidisciplinary team of Epidemiologists, Data Analysts, Statisticians, Economists, and Clinical Researchers work collaboratively to conduct research to improve the health of people living with HIV and people with related conditions in British Columbia. The BC-CfE also operates a primary care service - the Hope to Health Research and Innovation Centre (H2H) - that serves clients who often have complex needs such as substance use disorders, mental illnesses, and housing instability.

Under the supervision of the Senior Epidemiologist, the primary focus of the Research Coordinator, Administrative Data will be to oversee data sharing, ethics, and privacy agreements, facilitate updated data linkages, and ensure consistent and proper use of the datasets within the STOP HIV/AIDS® Study. Given that this study contains administrative data (i.e., data whose primary purpose for collection was for administrative/financial purposes, no ‘research’ per se), this individual will also support the creation of internal educational/ documentation materials that will be used across the Centre to help support the use of administrative data for research purposes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
With the guidance of the Senior Epidemiologist, the Research Coordinator, Administrative Data will:

- Coordinate the STOP HIV/AIDS Study (i.e., overseeing data sharing, ethics, and privacy agreements, and facilitating updated data linkages).
- Ensure consistent and proper use of the STOP HIV/AIDS Study data for epidemiologic research (i.e., review of study protocols and resultant abstracts/manuscripts), including ensuring outputs adhere to conditions of relevant data sharing agreements.
- Support the creation of educational/training materials (e.g., contribute information related to the structure and quality of administrative data to manuals and presentations).
- Investigate and document the complexities of the administrative datasets being used in the STOP HIV/AIDS Study: e.g., healthcare practitioner billings, hospitalizations, and prescription medication data.
- Consult with the data analysis and statistical teams as well as internal and external researchers who use administrative data, when necessary (particularly those using data from the STOP HIV/AIDS Study).
- Develop and lead research projects for first-author publication, if time and interest permits.
- Conform to the highest standards of responsible conduct in research and comply with all of the BC-CfE’s policies and procedures.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training, and Experience
- Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Population/Public Health, or a related program, supplemented by 1-2 years of recent related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience acceptable to the Employer.
- Demonstrated understanding of key epidemiologic concepts (e.g., study design, bias, adjustment for confounding) as well as an understanding of research concepts and processes.
- Proven understanding of, and appreciation for, research ethics, confidentiality, and privacy regulations.
- Effective skills in communication (written/oral) of technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Attention-to-detail and enthusiasm for working collaboratively to solve complex problems.

Skills and Abilities (Assets)
- Demonstrated technical skills relevant to working with quantitative data, including proficiency with programming software (e.g., SAS, R, or STATA).
- Experience using administrative health data for research, particularly in British Columbia or other Canadian regions (e.g., Population Data BC’s data holdings, or other provincial equivalents).
- Experience in the creation of educational/training materials (e.g., manuals and presentations).
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, and/or medical terminology.

Please include in your letter of submission:

- Curriculum Vitae
- Cover letter detailing experience and interests

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Until the position is filled
