Job Summary
The primary focus of this position will be to undertake research activities related to the Endometriosis Pelvic Pain Interdisciplinary Cohort Data Registry and Tissue bank at the Endometriosis Pelvic Pain Laboratory at UBC. This includes the day-to-day operations of the two main infrastructure studies (EPPIC and Endo-ONC) as well as execution of numerous relevant sub-studies.
Organizational Status
The Research Coordinator will be supervised by the Research Manager and report directly to the Research Manager and Principal Investigator Dr. Paul Yong.
Work Performed
The Research Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the major infrastructure projects of the Endometriosis Pelvic Pain Laboratory including the Endometriosis Pelvic Pain Interdisciplinary Cohort Data Registry, the Endometriosis and Oncogenesis Tissue bank and relevant sub studies. This may involve:
Developing study protocols and standard operating procedures
Training students on standard operating procedures and managing their execution of all operating procedures
Advising on recruitment of participants, administration of surveys and extraction of data
Responsible for the administration and providing guidance on logistics and organization of data management, data cleaning and quality control to research assistants and volunteers
Develops meeting agendas and items for discussion. Takes action resulting from these meetings ensuring policies and procedures are met
Advising staff, students and investigators on scope, design, strategy, and goals of proposed EPPIC sub studies
Managing data access, transfer and storage
Overseeing and conducting preliminary analysis, analyzing results for relevant sub-studies and work with research manager on sophisticated analysis
Leading knowledge translation activities by developing plain language communications for stakeholders, proofreading social media posts prior to posting to ensure accuracy of content and sensitive to the target population
Developing protocols for literature reviews and/or systematic reviews
Planning and implementation of knowledge translation events
Managing project finances, remediating issues and escalating more complex problems to the research manager
Manage relationships with patient partners to engage in research activities
Managing students in research activities utilizing EPPIC data
Any other tasks as defined by the research manager or principal investigator within the scope of the role
Consequence of Error/Judgement
This position acts with considerable independence although close communication and coordination with the Principal Investigator and Research Manager is essential. Poor decisions or errors may cause loss of reputation for the Principal Investigator, UBC research and subsequently loss of funding. Actions and decisions are crucial to the integrity of research and excellence of the research activities of the Principal Investigator and partners at other institutions. Incorrect actions or decisions could jeopardize the reputation of the University, faculty research programs, staff, and students. Errors in judgement or failure to complete work in an efficient and timely manner may risk the Principal Investigators and University's status and ability to secure additional funds, attract students and collaborators, and to provide desired information to the larger community.
