The Indigenous Relations branch, as part of the Strategic and Corporate Priorities Division, is responsible for developing and implementing strategies, policy and processes to help ensure safe and secure transportation access, drive economic development, and promote collaboration with Indigenous communities and Indigenous peoples as it applies to the transportation sector.

SCP IR reports to the ADM Strategic and Corporate Priorities Division. The group leads the ministry’s contribution to government’s commitment to reconciliation and to advance the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (the UN Declaration), the Truth and Reconciliation calls to action and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (the Declaration Act) (collectively referred to as the foundational documents), and creates internally-focused strategies and policy to progress our ministry’s reconciliation journey and support the regional IR teams.

The Advisor, Indigenous Relations provides advice to Ministry staff on how to address First Nations concerns while minimizing any negative impacts on projects and programming. This position will lead the development and delivery of programming and services to support our ministry’s overall approach towards reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

This position supports workforce initiatives including leading reconciliation and Indigenous relations training and development strategies and programming, and looks to align our internal processes and programs to support the principles of the UN Declaration, and the Declaration Act.

The Advisor, Indigenous Relations leads development of programs and services (both internal and external) from concept to implementation and evaluation, and engages with other provincial and federal agencies on Indigenous matters as needed.

The Advisor, Indigenous Relations provides leadership to processes which endeavor to anticipate and resolve a broad range of concerns.

**Job Requirements**:
**Education & Experience**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Indigenous Relations, geography, forestry, natural resources, regional planning, law, public administration, business administration, or related field and a minimum of one (1) year of related* experience; OR
- Diploma in Indigenous Relations, geography, forestry, natural resources, regional planning, law, public administration, business administration, or related field with a minimum of three (3) years of related* experience; OR,
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

**Related experience must include all of the following**:

- Experience with policy development and implementation.
- Experience planning, coordinating and managing projects and/or contracted services.
- Experience concisely and persuasively writing a range of documents/content.
- Experience planning and conducting complex research and analysis related to Indigenous matters British Columbia.
- Experience building and maintaining relationships with First Nation communities.
- Experience providing written and/or verbal advice to senior decision makers; and

**Provisos**:

- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.
