The Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions leads the Province of British Columbia (B.C.) in efforts to improve the mental well-being and reduce substance use-related harms for all British Columbians. The ministry has overall responsibility for the development of a coherent, accessible and culturally safe mental health and addictions system that is effective for individuals and families across the lifespan throughout the province. The Substance Use and Strategic Initiatives Branch works collaboratively with other ministries, Indigenous partners, local and federal governments, health authorities, non-government organizations, people with lived and living experience and public safety agencies to prevent and address problematic substance use.

The position of Researcher, Decriminalization supports program and/or policy development goals through monitoring, evaluation, and policy development by conducting data analysis, literature review, research study, and synthesis of multiple lines of evidence, and communication and knowledge translation of findings through various forums including working groups, committees, and Treasury Board briefings.

**Job Requirements**:

- Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, public or business administration or social science field, or equivalent.
- Experience in designing and conducting qualitative and quantitative research.

**Preference may be given to applicants**:

- With experience in the health or social sector.
- With experience working with First Nations, Métis or Inuit organizations and communities.
- With lived or living experience of, or experience working with populations with, complex health and social challenges.
- Who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience
