Black Affairs Student Coordinator / Coordinat.eur.rice étudiant.e pour les affaires Noir.e.s

Weekly Hours: 5-10 hours/week (during the academic year); 15-20 hours (during the summer).

Hourly Wage: $17.50/hour

Description de poste: La Faculté de droit cherche à recruter deux étudiant.e.s en droit Noir.e.s pour combler deux postes de Coordinat.eur.rice étudiant.e pour les affaires noires, à temps partiel pendant les semestres hiver et l’été 2023 (avec possibilité de renouvellement pour l'année scolaire 2023-2024).

Comme coordinat.eur.rice étudiant.e.s, elles seront chargées d’aider au développement d’initiatives diverses orienté vers les étudiant.e.s Noir.e.s à la Faculté, ainsi que pour les futurs étudiant.e.s en droit Noir.e.s. Les étudiant.e.s choisis travailleront sous la supervision de la Doyenne adjointe (vie étudiante) & Déléguée du doyen pour l’épanouissement des étudiant.e.s noir.e.s et autochtones. Les étudiant.e.s travaillera également de concert avec le Secrétariat aux affaires etudiantes, le Centre de développement professionnel, et les Doyennes adjointe Administration et stratégie et Admissions et recrutement.

Heures par semaine : 5 à 10 heures par semaine (pendant l’année scolaire); 15 à 20 heures par semaine (pendant l’été)

Salaire horaire : 17,50 $ par heure

Job Tasks - Overview

The Black Affairs Student Coordinators will assist in the following key tasks:

- Program Coordination for the Frederick Phillips Summer Program
- Partnership development, for example:

- Building partnerships with communities and organizations working Black individuals, as well as organizations that serve Indigenous communities, including employers, schools, CEGEPs, and educational programs
- Meeting with stakeholders to determine the needs of Black students in terms of engagement with law and pathways to postsecondary and legal education
- Development of outreach initiatives focused on Black students, for example:

- Developing specialized L.E.X. lesson plans that answer the needs and interests of Black students, with the possibility of involvement in delivering these lesson plans
- Developing See Yourself Here into institutionalized programming, alongside BLSAM Executive membership
- Resource creation, for example
- Finding employment opportunities (special programs) in the legal industry dedicated to Black students
- Compiling resources to assist Black students with the particular challenges they may face in their career development/job search (on campus or external)
- Communications, for example:

- Providing input on communications resources and materials (website, paper and electronic documentation, etc.)
- Providing input on and contribute to planning of events and activities

The position may involve some travel which will be covered by the University. Students will not be required to complete working tasks during the exam periods and workload will always be given in consideration of their academic workload, which should take a priority.

Additional required information/documents : Preference will be given first to Black Law students, then to Law students with experience working in and with Black communities.
