**SCOPE**
Reporting to the Department Administrator, Department of Health, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, in the Faculty of Arts & Science, the incumbent advises and guides students from the time of a student’s entrance into a Department of Health, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology program in the Faculty of Arts and Science to graduation.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Participate in the establishment of team objectives and operational plans for recruitment, advising, retention and readmission of the Faculty’s undergraduate students relating to academic programs and regulations.
- Provide academic advising to undergraduate Health, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology students regarding course selections for course requirements.
- Evaluate students’ academic records for degree and program requirements.
- Provide timely and appropriate responses to student requests and refer them to the Student Academic Services unit for final vetting.
- Participate in recruitment activities and events designed to attract potential students to the department.
- Analyze data and provide information to department, faculty, students and other individuals where appropriate. Make recommendations to the Chair and to Student Academic Services, regarding trends, practices and procedures.
- Pro-actively counsel/inform departmental advisors, chairs, staff members, and the student population about academic programs, rules and regulations. This includes participation in recruitment/Open House activities, orientation/advising sessions, planning/facilitating workshops for staff, and special events.
- Represent the department on various internal and external meetings and/or committees, which deal with recruitment, retention and admission of undergraduate students in Health, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology.
- Organize and conduct new student orientation sessions and keep abreast of university and faculty new student services.
- Maintain active communication with students and university departments and services.
- Provide registration assistance to and resolve registration problems for students and departmental academic advisors, Chair and staff members of the department.
- Provide advice to and counsel students with academic problems.

**REQUIREMENTS**
- Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to the Health, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology program and two to four years of related work experience in an academic setting.
- Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English and French; good knowledge (Level 4) of French reading comprehension.
- Good knowledge (Intermediate level) of Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Excellent interpersonal skills is essential; ability to deal effectively with prospective, current and former students and alumni, with faculty and staff members and on internal and external departments and committees.
- Must have proven writing, analytical and organization skills; the ability to work under pressure for extended periods of time, take initiative and work independently and also within a team environment.
- Must have a proven ability to coordinate projects and work within strict deadlines.
- Ability to work flexible hours occasionally (e.g. special events, extraordinary circumstances).
- Ability to work and advise with discretion when dealing with sensitive situations.
- Advanced knowledge of the University’s academic rule and regulation is desirable.
- Advanced knowledge of the Student Information System (SIS) and/or a working knowledge of the Student Information Management System (SIS) is an asset.
