Safe Medical Care Learning (SMCL) is central to the CMPA’s vision of being a learning organization. The department’s core activities include design, development, delivery, and continuous assessment and evaluation of CMPA's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs and learning products as well as administrative and production support of these products and services. Digital learning products contribute to a blended learning approach and are readily accessible through the modernization of the CMPA website. The SMCL department utilizes data analysis and state of the art pedagogical science to share knowledge and improve practice of members and their teams while also contributing to the internal learning needs of CMPA staff, leaders, and governance through internal collaborations.

**POSITION OVERVIEW**

The Education and Knowledge Translation Specialist, SMCL, employs knowledge and practical competencies in education design and knowledge translation to serve a critical role in the SMCL's strategic and operational planning and decision-making on curriculum and learning product development. The incumbent facilitates knowledge translation through connections with key partners and stakeholders that synthesize and integrate data into learning. Through environmental scanning, stakeholder engagement, and contributing in CMPA research activities, the Education and KT Specialist plays an integral role in identifying environmental trends and emerging issues of relevance to CMPA and its members. Providing data-driven recommendations on potential learning opportunities or actions is crucial to the development of inclusive and responsive learning that is sensitive to the evolving needs of our members.

Reporting to the Senior Physician Advisor, Learning Development and Delivery, the Education and Knowledge Translation Specialist's activities significantly contribute to SMCL's development and delivery of relevant, data-driven learning for CMPA members and other health care professionals. The incumbent will play an important role in developing education curricula that provides relevant education to CMPA members and impact on safe care in Canada. The incumbent will play an important role in supporting data-driven learning through their work with Safe Medical Care Research and will serve as a liaison between SMCL and SMCR. The specialist will work closely with other SMCL teams including Learning Strategy, Learning Operations, Learning Programs and Learning Design and Digital Experience.

The Education and Knowledge Translation Specialist also plays a pivotal role in bridging SMCL's strategic priorities and operational goals with activities of other key partners within CMPA, such as Strategic Engagement and Advocacy (SEA), Communications, Medical Legal Services and Physician Support and Wellness.

**POSITION ACTIVITIES**

Knowledge Translation
- Responsible for developing an approach for SMCL knowledge translation that reflects SMCL's educational mandate and includes operational elements of implementation and communication
- Accountable for identifying themes and opportunities for development of educational offerings for CMPA members on current and emerging topics relevant to safe medical care which may involve:

- Scanning and tracking trends and occurrences in global, national, and regional environments that may impact on delivery of safe medical care in Canada and/or influence SMCL's strategic and operational decision-making
- Identifying contemporaneous issues and risks experienced by CMPA members through collaboration with service departments viz. Medico-legal Services and Communication
- Aiding in the analysis and interpretation of CMPA data through collaboration in research activities with Safe Medical Care Research (SMCR)
- Opportunities to lead and / or collaborate in independent qualitative, quantitative and mix-methods research supported by SMCR and SMCL
- Accountable for providing situational awareness on current and emerging issues of relevance to CMPA members and safe care by:

- Playing an active role in CMPA research activities, including participation in SMCR project meetings and serving as a liaison between SMCR and SMCL
- Working closely with the SMCL's Communications partners to develop and align priority messaging on current and emerging trends and in promotion of SMCL educational products
- Contributes to development of efficient systems and processes for scanning, identifying, and tracking emerging trends and potentially impacting on or influencing SMCL's strategic and operational decision-making
- Responsible for coordinating, engaging in, and reporting back to SMCL management on SMCL strategic planning activities with SMCR and other CMPA departments
