**About Frayme**

Frayme, hosted at the Institute of Mental Health Research, is a pan-Canadian and international platform designed to advance youth mental health and substance use (YMHSU) practice and make a significant impact on youth well-being in Canada and globally. Currently a network of over 400 partner organizations, including youth and family, clinicians, researchers, policymakers and service providers, Frayme works to ensure collaboration and knowledge sharing among people and organizations working to transform youth mental health services and systems. By focusing on knowledge exchange to promote the use of youth-centred integrated services, Frayme serves as a needed bridge between lived expertise, research, policy, practice and experience to improve mental health and substance use services by facilitating local action, national collaboration and international knowledge mobilization.

**Description**:
Reporting to Frayme’s Senior Engagement and Knowledge Equity Lead, the Knowledge Equity Specialist will be responsible for primarily supporting the needs of Frayme’s engagement strategy and, as a secondary responsibility, supporting Frayme’s knowledge mobilization mandate as needed and as appropriate. The Knowledge Equity Specialist is responsible for the growth and sustainability of Frayme’s Groundbreakers Network, a national and international group of more than 300 youth, caregivers, and advocates dedicated to the youth mental health and substance use space (YMHSU). The Knowledge Equity Specialist is an experienced self-starter that will be able to engage with an interdisciplinary staff team and a diverse set of stakeholders to deliver on projects and activities. The Knowledge Equity Specialist will also aid in gathering knowledge, connecting people and supporting practice and policy change to transform youth mental health and substance use care systems. The incumbent will also work alongside an interdisciplinary and integrated staff team model comprising partnership, engagement, knowledge equity and communications portfolios.

**The overarching responsibilities of the Knowledge Equity Specialist include**:

- Lead with knowledge equity principles, including, but not limited to, actively learning and unlearning, leaning into hard conversations, and consistently exploring and reflecting upon your positions of power and privilege (or lack thereof)
- Engage in ongoing analysis of national and international lived expertise engagement perspectives, best and promising practices, emerging research and policy positions specific to caregiver engagement, as well as youth mental health and substance use
- Support plans and strategies to enhance lived expertise engagement efforts of the organization and expand stakeholder knowledge and involvement, including through the maintenance of Frayme’s Groundbreakers Network and Matching Support Program
- Aid in the production and/or dissemination of Knowledge Mobilization products/resources from the lived expertise lens
- Demonstrate an ability to speak from your perspective as someone who holds lived expertise in a constructive way that builds towards system improvement.
- To provide a perspective of lived expertise during the collaboration with the core team to identify and support outputs, forums, communities of interest in topics of need and interest
- Actively completing administrative duties, including maintaining records, contributing to reporting, etc.
- Support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements.

**The Knowledge Equity Specialist will spend approximately 60% of their time engaging with individuals who hold Lived Expertise. These responsibilities include**:

- Develop and maintain relationships with individuals across Frayme’s Groundbreakers Network, stakeholders, and the broader Youth Mental Health and Substance Use system to enable the inclusion of lived experts
- Support engagement/partnering of individuals with lived expertise, and uniquely matching them to activities and projects that align with their lived experience, skills, and/or areas of interest
- Alter engagement methods in order to better involve individuals who hold lived expertise and identify as members of communities or populations who have historically and contemporarily been underserved, marginalized and oppressed
- Coordinate engagement activities related to a specific program and/or project, which includes (but is not limited to):

- arranging meeting logistics
- Taking minutes during activities
- Creating content documents
