**The opportunity**:
The Research Contracts Officer (RCO) plays a pivotal role in managing the intake, review, and coordination of a large volume of research contracts at the University, reporting directly to the Director of Research Contracts. Each RCO is responsible for approximately 300 files annually, spanning various stages of completion. In this role, the RCO collaborates with researchers to assess awarded projects and formulate strategic agreements. Key responsibilities include the drafting, review, and preliminary negotiation of contracts and related documents for research proposals and collaborations. The RCO works closely with university faculty, the Office of Legal Counsel, the Office of Research and Special Fund Accounting, the Office of Research Ethics and Compliance, and external parties to facilitate the contract review process.

**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:

- An undergraduate degree required.
- Master' degree would be preferred.
- A minimum of four years of directly related contract experience in a university, government department, private agency or foundation is required.
- Experience in reviewing and editing contracts is required.
- Experience in interpreting and implementing funding agency policies as they relate to contracts is considered an asset. (e.g. U.S. National Institutes of Health and other U.S. federal)
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Strong writing skills for agreement review are required.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret policies, guidelines, legislation, and budgets is required.
- Understanding of privacy legislation is required.
- Highly analytical skills are required with a fine attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills are required.
- Demonstrated advanced proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office are required.
- Proven ability to work independently and effectively under pressure, managing high volume workloads, competing priorities, and tight timelines with the ability to adjust to and accommodate constantly shifting work priorities is required.
- Demonstrating a high level of initiative, involving the independence of exercise of good judgement within guidelines set by policies is required.
- Knowledge of the Canadian and international research funding landscape is required.
- Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality is required.
- Ability to adapt to changing office technology and newly implemented University procedures is required.
- Understanding of university and hospital research environments is preferred.
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures are an asset.
- Proficient understanding of medical terminology is a strong asset.
- Understanding relevant legislation and guidelines of international, national and provincial regulatory bodies is a strong asset.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
