The Ministry of Seniors, Community and Social Services provides supports for families and communities, and helps Albertans access disability services, financial supports, services for the homeless, and other social-based programs. The ministry supports Albertans through a person-centered, integrated service delivery model that recognizes the unique circumstances, experiences and strengths of individuals and families.

Within the Disability Services Division, the Disability Policy and Supports Branch leads program policy and statutory oversight for the Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) and the Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) programs, focusing on accountability, innovation and policy excellence.

**Role**:
The Program and Policy Advisor provides program policy advice and project coordination for the design, development and maintenance of the FSCD and PDD programs, including legislative, regulatory and policy changes. This expert knowledge and support is provided both within the branch and to partners in the division. All work is conducted with the goal of ensuring that the interests and policy priorities of the program are effectively represented in projects and other activities.

The position's focus is research and analysis, development of recommendations and information materials, as well as coordinating cross-divisional projects. Results achieved by this position will have an influence on current department and program initiatives, and future policies and priorities.

To be successful in this role, the Program and Policy Advisor will have the ability to:
- Think strategically and develop solutions to complex problems;
- Provide facts and advice in an objective manner;
- Understand and articulate issues with broad social and political implications;
- Summarize and synthesize information efficiently and accurately from a variety of sources in order to make recommendations; and
- Understand how analysis relates to the work of decision-makers across the broader government.

**Qualifications**:
An undergraduate degree in a related field, and a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

The following will be considered assets:

- Master’s degree in a related field
- Experience leading projects
- Experience with policy and legislative development
- Experience writing for a variety of audiences

**Salary**:
$2,588.06 to $3,397.76 bi-weekly ($67,290 - $88,342 / year)

**Notes**:
Hours of work are 36.25 hours weekly.
