**Role**:
The **Research and Innovation Branch** establishes evidence-informed, high value innovation in policy and practice through health evidence reviews, policy and strategy development, and strategic alliance with stakeholders including Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Alberta Innovates (AI).

The **Health Innovation Partnerships and Strategy (HIPS) Unit** leads the development and evolution of the Department’s strategic vision and policy initiatives related to health research and innovation. HIPS leverages partnerships and collaboration with stakeholders and industry to integrate innovations into Alberta’s health care system and works with stakeholders to ensure the research and innovation ecosystem in Alberta is responsive to health and health system needs. HIPS also provides analysis and advice on emerging issues in the life science and health research sectors and supports health innovation and commercialization initiatives.

Reporting to the Manager of Health Innovation Partnerships and Strategy, the Policy Advisor provides support for the strategy and policy development; committee support; opportunities in health sciences research and innovation; health research and innovation collaborations; and special projects. The Policy Advisor prepares responses to action requests including those related to research, innovation, and partnerships with relevant entities.

**Responsibilities**:

- You will participate in the development of research, analysis, and advice related to health innovation and research policy and strategy development for the Department.
- While supporting the Manager, Health Innovation Partnerships and Strategy, you will complete committee functions.
- You will also support with project management for priority initiatives.
- You will participate in the development of research, analysis, and advice related to health innovation and research policy and strategy development for the Department.
- Preparing a variety of documents to support decision making will also be part of your duties.
- Ensuring effective operation of the Unit and contributing to the effective operation of the Branch.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- A **University Degree **in a related field plus **two (2) years **of progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

**Assets **include:

- Experience in policy research and development
- Project management experience
- Experience in the health care system, and/or health research, and/or the medical device or pharmaceutical industry
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

**Equivalencies**:Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
