**Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium (PCIC)**
The Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium (PCIC) is a regional climate service centre at the University of Victoria (UVic) that works with users to help them understand the physical impacts of climate variability and change. Our service is growing and thus we have been learning from and helping a widening array of users. With support from the BC Climate Action Secretariat, PCIC is developing new relationships with Indigenous communities and is therefore seeking to build its internal capacity to weave together indigenous knowledge and perspectives with climate science knowledge and expertise so that we can better support climate change adaptation in Indigenous communities in BC.
You will work with the User Engagement and Training team to build PCIC’s capacity to engage Indigenous users in the development of practical information on the impacts of climate change for climate service users working in and with Indigenous communities in BC. Reporting to the User Engagement and Training Specialist, you will be responsible for assisting in the development of relevant content, including case studies or other narratives, as well as assessing user needs and testing content with users.
For this position we are seeking a qualified applicant with relevant experience in the community planning or assessment processes in Indigenous communities. The successful applicant will have strong skills in relationship building, experience working in and with Indigenous communities in BC, and an understanding of upholding Indigenous knowledge systems as well as climate change, its impacts and climate change adaptation approaches that have been applied in other contexts.
**Accountabilities**
- Develop relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations in BC
- Coordinate and collaborate with partner organizations to ensure Indigenous communities and organizations in BC are well served
- Collaborate with a variety of knowledge holders and experts to ensure content and tool development occurs from an integrated perspective
- Lead and participate in special events, workshops and webinars
- Research, design and write content for Indigenous climate service users that meets their needs
**Knowledge & Experience**

This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, work experience and lived experience in areas related to the position and 2 years of relevant experience preferably in community-based planning or education.
- Previous work experience in community development, public health, communications, environmental science, climate change or a related field
- Demonstrated experience in successfully delivering presentations on complex topics
- Understanding of climate change and its impacts
- Knowledge of cultural protocols, history and cultural values of Indigenous peoples in BC
- Knowledge translation and mobilization experience an asset
- Education and/or experience in any applied science related to climate change or climate impacts is an asset

**Other Information**:
- This position is funded through an agreement with the BC Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy
- Employment period: This is an up to 24 month position
- Full-time (35 hours per week)
- Pay rate: Commensurate with education and experience
