Job Title: Indigenous Relations Strategist

Location: Saąnich District Office

Salary: $90,000 - $110,000 per year

 

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Indigenous Relations Strategist to join our team at the District of Saanich. The successful candidate will develop an Indigenous relations framework to guide our government-to-government work and lead the development of a reconciliation plan that promotes Saanich as a district committed to continued progress toward reconciliation.

The Indigenous Relations Strategist will co-lead/lead cross-organizational staff committees and relevant council committees, working directly and collaboratively with managers across the organization. This role will provide strategic vision, leadership, and guidance to the District's departments, staff, and other stakeholders in advancing priority policies, projects, and programs.

This position requires expertise in Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, including knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, communities, and organizations. The successful candidate must be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts, including Indigenous leaders, under circumstances that may be political and sensitive.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree in First Nations studies, Political Science, Anthropology, Sociology, Communications, law, or other relevant degree, along with additional education or certification related to Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities or governments, having an understanding of their culture, traditions, communities, and organizations.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • A deep understanding of Indigenous relations and reconciliation principles, with experience developing strategies, plans, programs, and frameworks.
