ONC is a not-for-profit society that operates and manages innovative cabled observatories on behalf of the University of Victoria that supply continuous power and Internet connectivity to various scientific instruments located in coastal, deep-ocean and Arctic environments. ONC’s cable arrays host thousands of sensors distributed in, on and above the seabed, along with mobile and land-based assets. These strategically located instruments address key scientific and policy issues (subsea earthquakes and tsunamis, ocean acidification, marine biodiversity, etc.) within a wide range of environments.

The Learning & Community Engagement Department serves ONC’s user communities by: leading ONC’s organizational commitment to meaningful, ongoing engagement of Indigenous and other communities; providing formal and informal educational resources and programs for youth and adults; serving as a key liaison with the social science research community; working to strengthen ONC’s emerging role as a leader in science-oriented community-engaged research; and developing environmental monitoring programs in collaboration with community partners. The department comprises four teams: Indigenous Engagement, K-12 Education, Post-Secondary Education, and Community-Based Monitoring.

The Manager of Community-Based Monitoring at ONC leads a team dedicated to advancing community-based ocean observing in collaboration with Indigenous groups, governments, communities, and organizations. Their primary responsibility is to ensure the team aligns with ONC’s strategic goals, delivering high-quality data products, services, and solutions to support ocean stewardship, climate change mitigation and coastal resilience. The Manager oversees the development of partnerships and projects, facilitating the implementation of community-based monitoring programs across ONC.

**The salary range for this position is**:

- **Recruitment range: $87,035- $95,971** starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
- **Performance range: starting salary to max of $113,217** is available through annual performance increases.
