Diabetes Nurse Educator, Indigenous Health

Graduation from a recognized nursing program. Current Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) certification. Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
A minimum of three years' recent related experience including experience in the care of diabetes and group teaching, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience and proven track record of working with Indigenous peoples and communities with a demonstrated understanding of Indigenous health approaches, protocols and cultural issues. Demonstrated knowledge in the current theories, technologies and practices in the control of diabetes mellitus. Knowledge of Adult Education learning principles.
Indigenous ancestry preferred.
Skills And Abilities- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to organize assigned workload and set priorities.
- Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate patient care.
- Ability to assess learning needs of Indigenous people throughout the lifecycle.
- Ability to apply the principles of adult learning in individual and group settings.
- Ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts including co-workers, physicians, community agencies' representatives, patients, and families.
- Ability to adapt and accept change as the program evolves.
- Ability to deliver culturally sensitive services to the Indigenous populations of Southern Vancouver Island.
- Possess a valid BC Driver's License.
