**Description**

The position will report to Dr. Melanie Noel, Professor (Department of Psychology) and Dr. Katie Birnie, Assistant Professor (Department of Anesthesia). Both Drs. Noel and Birnie are Full Member of the Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute, Hotchkiss Brain Institute, Owerko Center, and Mathison Center for Mental Health Research and Education.

This position will require multi-site travel, with time spent at the Alberta Children's Hospital, the Department of Psychology (Education Tower), and various community sites. Exclusive remote work will not be possible for this position given the nature of the research. Workdays may vary in length and may occasionally include evening and weekend hours to facilitate data collection, management and oversight. The position is internally funded, and may be extended on a year-to-year basis based on continued funding and job performance.

The successful applicant will function as an administrator, coordinator, educator, and researcher in the primary management of a multi-study, community engagement project led my Drs. Noel and Birnie. This project will involve working closely with diverse groups of children and families (who have expertise in the lived experience of pain, neurodevelopmental disabilities, and/or mental health issues), clinicians, researchers (trainees and faculty members), and various community partners. The successful applicant will have excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills and a passion for working collectively within environments and teams that center justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The coordinator functions as a preceptor for new staff members and students, as required. Activities include development of job descriptions, assigning work, training, and workflow analysis.

Communicates with U of C personnel to ensure all assigned protocols are kept current as required for Ethics, Human Resources, Research & Trust Accounting, Legal and Research Office related matters. Ensures that all required study documentation is collected and submitted as per study protocols. Facilitates collaborative project management delivery across other departments and sites.

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):

- Supporting and managing research studies at the Alberta Children's Hospital and University of Calgary, which may include patient recruitment, study execution, data collection, monitoring, entry, cleaning, scoring, and analysis, as well as manuscript preparation.
- Preparing ethics submissions and communicating with the CHREB.
- Ensuring that studies are carried out to a high quality and as per regulations stipulated by Health Canada, the Research Ethics Board, and other oversight and regulatory bodies.
- Gathering, analyzing and compiling research budget information and reports.
- Administering research budget allocations, revenues and expenditures.
- Liaising between a diverse group of clinicians, researchers, community partners, children and families, and team members to ensure that projects are managed effectively, on time, on budget, and are aligned with the overall objectives.
- Providing partners with information and advice about our research.
- Assisting in the planning of current and future research projects.
- Delivering engaging, informative, well-organized presentations.
- Facilitating team and partner meetings effectively, informing them of progress and status of projects.
- Proactively anticipating problems and developing preventative solutions; helping to establish quality performance standards.
- Resolving minor issues in the work environment and research studies.
- Escalating complex issues in a timely fashion.
- Providing project management mentorship to other student and staff on the team.
- Analyzing data using Excel, Access and appropriate statistical software (e.g., SPSS).
- Assisting in preparation of supporting materials for grant proposals, funding requests, and reports.

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- Completion of a BA or BSc; prefer Masters degree in psychology or a health care-related field.
- 1-2 years of clinical pediatric research experience.
- 1-2 years experience, including supervisory experience, in a healthcare-related research setting.
- 3-4 years experience working with children and parents in a professional capacity is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with community organizations is strongly preferred.
- CCRP (Certified Clinical Research Professional) certification with SOCRA (Society of Clinical Research Associates) or equivalent would be beneficial.
- Training and experience in patient partnership in research considered very beneficial.
- Experience in research coordination (including mixed methods research designs) and knowledge mobilization activities, with a background knowledge of children and health.
- Crisis training and experience working with complex health and trauma cases is strongly preferred.
