The Calgary Drop-In and Rehab Centre (“the DI”) is a low-barrier, housing-focused shelter that serves some of the city’s most vulnerable people. At the DI, we focus on providing a person’s basic needs, while doing everything possible to find them a permanent, safe home that meets their individual needs. There is no greater contribution you can make to another person’s path of recovery and wellness than an ongoing, consistent, positive relationship of respect and kindness. The DI works within the core values of housing first, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction to support staff and guests.

**Position **Summary**

Reporting to the Manager, Fund Development & Community Engagement, the Coordinator, Community Engagement acts as lead in planning and executing community engagement initiatives on the Strategy, Impact & Engagement (SI&E) pillar. They are responsible for cultivating and maintaining relationships with community partners such as corporate groups, schools and individual and other group volunteers. The Coordinator, Community Engagement, with oversight from the SI&E leadership team, ensures successful achievement of the volunteer and practicum program growth as well as presence in the community.

**Time **Commitment**

Not less than 40 hours per rotation; with 5 days on and 2 days off. Some unusual hours may be required from time to time as the need arises. These hours may be altered at the discretion of management.

**Job **Duties and Responsibilities**

STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT & VOLUNTEERS (70%)
- Lead and develop community engagement programs for volunteers and practicum students
- Support community and onsite events from planning to execution
- Helps inform regular data reporting, including qualitative feedback or insights that are observed from the community to guide communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Liaises with Fund Development department to support stewardship activities.
- Responsible for submitting content, photos and stories relating to donors, community initiatives, events, and the Donation Centre to communications for recognition purposes.
- Actively pursues personal growth & development opportunities in relation to job role.
- Helps fosters a culture of philanthropy throughout the DI, so that everyone recognizes the importance of stewarding positive relationships.
- Support with other engagement opportunities such as meal sponsorship, speaking or community events/public outreach
- Lead the development and implementation of a volunteer recognition strategy for all volunteers.
- Manage relationships and communication with school partners while supporting the Specialist, Volunteer Engagement, in the schools program
- Build strong collaborative relationships internally, across the organization, and externally, among partners.
- Lead and manage the agency’s Share the Street program including curriculum development, building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, and evaluating and reporting of the program.
- Stay informed of DI key messaging and communicate it to various public speaking engagements (e.g. community organizations, schools, etc.)
- Promote sponsorship opportunities and support with donor stewardship.
- Foster a culture of community engagement throughout the DI, to ensure stewarding positive relationships and problem-solving for the best possible.

DATABASE MANAGEMENT & ADMINISTRATION (30%)
- Maintain accurate records and statistics and prepare monthly reports using Volunteer Database as required.
- Develop and maintain record keeping strategies that align with long term agency goals and requirements.
- Lead and develop SOPs (standard operating procedures) for the day-to-day activities involving volunteers, public education, advocacy, other proactive and reactive engagement opportunities.

**Required Competencies and Qualifications**
- Post-secondary education or diploma in a related field or commensurate experience is preferred
- 2-5 years’ experience in community engagement and/or fund development is required
- Related experience and a proven record of success, preferably in a complex non-profit environment
- Proven skills and experience managing relationships
- Self directed and action oriented
- Energetic and self-directed, with effective time management and organizational skills including the ability to deal with multiple priorities at the same time
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficient in Office365 and Microsoft Office Suite 2016
- Ability to work with databases; experience with Raiser’s Edge and Samaritan an asset
- Familiar with social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn
- Eager to learn new systems and adopt improved best practices
- Must demonstrate initiative and work autonomously
- Must be acceptable of industry risks, including coming into contact with bodily fluids
