Youth Engagement Coordinator, Psychiatry

**Description**

This position will be based out of the Mathison Centre at the Foothills Medical Centre but involves working closely with government and non-profit agencies across the province. The Youth Engagement Coordinator will generally work during normal business hours but will occasionally need to work evenings or weekends. This position allows some flexibility to work from home, but travel to study sites across the province will be required at different phases of the study. The Youth Engagement Coordinator will report to the Senior Scientist.

Recurring Part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):

- Coordinates youth engagement activities for the CYHSI evaluation
- Connects and follows-up with patient advisors on a regular basis to build trust and commitment to the research program
- Prepares and updates documents specific to patient advisors (e.g., reimbursement policy, terms of reference, responsibilities and timeline)
- Assists in recruiting new patient advisors for the CYHSI evaluation. This position reports to the Senior Scientist as required
- Prepares, supports and trains new patient advisors to become familiar with their roles and the research process
- Helps patients advisors to identify their needs and expectations in terms of training or support and assists in meeting those needs
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Identifies barriers to patient engagement (e.g., transportation, communication, access) and assists in addressing or mitigates those barriers
- Prepares resources for patient advisors to meet their training needs
- Documents patient advisor activities related to the research project to compensate their time and efforts as appropriate
- Provides training on effective multi-stakeholder team function
- Develops, maintains and facilitates a sound working relationship and communication with patient advisors, researchers and other stakeholders (e.g. SPOR, Patient Engagement Research Group) as required
- Communicates regularly with research teams to report progress, challenges/barriers, and improvement opportunities
- Provides administrative support for patient advisors and organizes meetings and events

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- Experience in managing multi-stakeholder relations, volunteer support/management, managing expectations, training and facilitation, providing feedback
- Respects diversity and different opinions
- Has an understanding of patient-oriented research and can clearly and genuinely articulate the value of patient engagement in health research
- Warm, inviting and authentic character an asset
- Ability to work independently and function as a team member
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Experience in communicating with different stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines and set priorities
- Respects and maintains confidentiality as required in their employment contracts from University of Calgary and in accordance with provincial privacy laws (AB-Personal Information Protection Act, NL-Personal Health Information Act, ON-Personal Health Information Protection Act)
- Proficient with MS Office Suite
- Strong working knowledge of University practices, procedures, and systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, eFIN, IRISS, SharePoint)
