**Job Summary**:
The Public Health Planning Specialist promotes effective, evidence-informed public health practice at Halton Region Public Health through the analysis and synthesis of research evidence on a variety of topics, as well as supporting teams through the program planning process. They will conduct literature reviews (independently or in collaboration with other staff) and develop products (e.g. reports, presentations, and briefing notes) that summarize findings. In addition, they will support program teams with situational assessments, development of goals, objectives, and logic models. As part of the Public Health Resources division, the Public Health Planning Specialist will work closely with the Public Health Planning Advisor and Information Specialist as part of a team that supports evidence-informed decision making (EIDM) and program planning.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Leads the design and undertakes/coordinates literature reviews to develop evidence-informed recommendations on a variety of public health topics.
- Communicates evidence review results in formats appropriate to users, facilitating knowledge exchange (i.e., reports, evidence reviews, briefing notes, infographics, and presentations).
- Supports training/capacity development activities for public health staff related to EIDM (e.g., workshops on critical appraisal).
- Utilizes project management tools/templates to support the timely execution of projects.
- Supports the development of tools, templates and processes for EIDM and program planning.
- Supports program teams with aspects of the program planning process, including situational assessments, development of goals & objectives, and logic models.
- Works collaboratively with staff from the Public Health Resources division and across the public health unit.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

**Skills & Qualifications**:
**Essential**
- A Bachelor’s degree in public health, health promotion, health science or related discipline.
- Two (2) to three (3) years’ experience working in a planning or research role, preferably within a local public health unit.
- Strong knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods, including interpreting research findings.
- Experience in conducting rapid reviews of literature, including literature searching, critical appraisal and evidence synthesis.
- Experience in preparing and delivering high-quality written reports and presentations for diverse audiences and purposes.
- Ability to work in a self-directed manner to establish priorities and balance multiple projects.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills is essential.

**Preferred**
- A Master’s degree in public health, health promotion, health science or related discipline.
- Experience facilitating and supporting training and education sessions.
- Project management experience.
- Knowledge of the_ Ontario Public Health Standards_ and protocols.

- Travel within Halton Region may be required to meet with staff at Regional offices or other off-site locations. The incumbent must provide their own transportation.
