**About Us**:
The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service investigates deaths of persons who die from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent good health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility, or in any suspicious or unusual manner. Our service is also responsible for approving cremations.

**About Our Opportunity**:
As an Administrative Assistant, you will be responsible for secretarial, administrative and various related functions for individuals such as the Director, Medical Examiners, and management team. The most significant of these functions includes tracking of data and processes, communication and correspondance with the public and Medical Examiner Service stakeholders, typing and proofreading correspondence, creating spreadsheets, and calendar/schedule management.

This role includes, but is not limited to the following:

- Receiving, screening, redirecting and responding to inquiries from the public, police, government departments or agencies.
- Receiving and assisting police, relatives of deceased persons, visitors and officials
- Reviewing and updating information on the Medical Examiner database.
- File management.
- Follow up on subpoenas received on behalf of the Medical Examiners, including determination of Crown Attorney assignment and confirmation of Court dates for Medical Examiner testimony.
- Oversight for audiovisual equipment, photocopy/printers, fax machines, cellphones, landlines, computer equipment and office supplies required for operations.

The incumbent will receive and respond to a wide variety of calls consistent with the areas of responsibility and makes appropriate referrals on matters outside the scope of the position.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
Completion of a one-year commercial course plus three (3) years of administrative experience is required. An acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

A general understanding of medical and/or justice services and provincial government in general, would be considered assets in this role.
