The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for a temporary full-time Human Resources Generalist in the Human Resources & Organizational Development division. This temporary full-time opportunity is for a period up to April 2025.

**Job description**

The Human Resources Generalist (HRG) is responsible for facilitating the organization’s goals through administering, developing, and amending policies, procedures, and programs for Health, Safety, & Wellness, HR Strategy & Culture, Payroll/HRIS, Labour Relations, Talent Acquisition & Development, and Total Rewards.

**Essential responsibilities**
- Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies
- Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of our Human Resources, Mental Health & Wellbeing, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Strategies
- Provide direct support to three primary portfolios which include HR Strategy & Culture, Talent Acquisition & Development, and Total Rewards
- Provide indirect support to secondary portfolios which include Payroll/HRIS, Health, Safety & Wellness, and Labour Relations
- Provide guidance to supervisors and employees on HR related policies, procedures, programs, and collective agreements
- Provide direct support for all HR managers during workplace investigations
- Assist HR managers with the preparation of the human resources annual budget
- Understand, apply, and monitor legislative trends that impact Human Resources such as Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Pay Equity Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act.

**Essential qualifications**
- Completion of a three (3) year formal post-secondary program (preferably in a Human Resources or Business Administration program), with six (6) months to two (2) years of related experience; or an equivalent of related education and experience
- Experience working in Human Resources, preferably in a multi-unionized workplace, such as municipal or public sector environment
- Involvement working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects, programs, and priorities requiring a high degree of mental concentration, time management, organizational, and prioritization skills,
- Exemplify professionalism and excellent communication and interpersonal skills (both verbal and written) in order to manage relationships with both internal clients and external stakeholders with tact and diplomacy
- Experience working with an Human Resources Information System (HRIS) (or similar software program)
- Knowledge of/experience working with JD Edwards Enterprise (or similar software program)

**Other Qualifications**
- Knowledge of Municipal Human Resources policy, procedures, programs, and collective agreements considered an asset

**Certifications, memberships, licenses**
- Current membership with the Human Resources Professional Association considered an asset
- Currently have or working towards Certified Human Resources Professional or Leader (CHRP/CHRL) designation is considered an asset

**Work environment/hours of work**
- This position works indoors
- This position works weekday hours

**Working Remotely**

This position has been approved for remote working, at the discretion of the supervisor based on the Working Remotely Policy.

This position may be required to attend on-site meetings in order to complete essential responsibilities of the role. As per the Working Remotely Policy, employees scheduled to work remotely on a certain day may occasionally be called to a municipal onsite work location on short notice. Employees must remain flexible to accommodate municipal requirements and be prepared to be called in on short notice.

**COVID-19 Vaccination**

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent no longer requires a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. Although it is not mandatory to be vaccinated, it is highly encouraged.

**Driver’s licence/vehicle requirements**

Because this position would be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is preferred.
