With the launch of the Northern Super League in 2025, Calgary Wild FC is seeking its first Head Coach and General Manager (GM) in Club history to lead the establishment of the on-field team who will compete in the inaugural season of this newly established women’s professional soccer league in Canada. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of a groundbreaking professional women’s soccer Club and contribute to the growth of professional women’s soccer in Alberta.

The GM is the key sport and technical executive within the Calgary Wild FC, accountable for all aspects of on-field performance of the team, which includes player recruitment, athlete development and training, annual planning and budgeting, oversight of all supporting technical and medical staff, and game day preparation and performance. The GM will report directly to the President & CEO and collaborate with the CFO and Commercial Lead. Direct reports will include the Sport Director, Medical Staff, Team Manager, and Coaching Staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic and Technical Sport Leadership: Develop a long-term strategic football/sport plan that supports the strategic goals and sustainability of the Calgary Wild FC including key performance indicators and milestones as well as monitor the pipeline of players within the reserve team and academy system.
  • Sport Staff Oversight and Recruitment: Develop organizational structure (near and long term) for football, including recruiting and developing coaches, technical and support staff. Manage staff contracts and negotiations according to the standards set by the League.
  • Player Recruitment: Provide guidance to the Sport Director, identifying roster requirements, positional profiles, and analysis of the current roster. Oversee the scouting, recruitment, negotiation, and onboarding of new prospective players.
  • Player Development & Care: Work closely with the Sport Director and IST staff to ensure the appropriate player care protocols are in place, including open communication between technical and medical staff regarding player status reports, treatment, and injury rehabilitation.
  • Game Management: Prepare the team to play on game day, formulate the game strategy, oversee the selection of game day rosters, and make in-game changes accordingly.
  • Budget Management: Manage the budget of the technical department, ensuring efficient allocation of resources for player acquisitions, staff salaries, and other football-related expenses.
  • League and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the Club adheres to all League rules and regulations, as well as all applicable rules and regulations of Canada Soccer, FIFA, and other governing bodies.
  • Community and Public Relations: Represent the Club in public and professional settings, enhancing the Club’s image and reputation.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, including team owners, the community, partners, and fans.
  • Commercial & Brand Strategy: Collaborate with the commercial team in developing a holistic community and marketing strategy.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Support the President and CEO, working in tandem with the CFO and Commercial Lead, to build out a strong club culture.

Experience:

  • Minimum Canada Soccer A License or equivalent international coaching credentials.
  • Minimum of 5 years working in a professional football environment preferably in the women’s game as head coach or assistant coach.
  • Experience leading cross-functional, multi-disciplinary, sport performance teams.
  • Some sport business experience preferable.

  • Ability to develop a sport performance annual plan, inclusive of KPIs, resource attribution, and clear roles and responsibilities.
