The Senior Manager, HIA Policy plays a critical role in supporting Alberta’s health sector through the complexities of health information legislation, with a focus on the Health Information Act (HIA). This leadership role involves providing strategic guidance on legislative interpretation, driving the HIA's provincial implementation, and ensuring that policies stay effective and responsive to the needs of Alberta’s health system. In this role, you will also support external stakeholders directly, helping to shape Alberta’s health information landscape for the future.

Key responsibilities:

Leading the development of health information policy, including primary responsibility for the ongoing maintenance and modernization of the HIA, enabling the appropriate collection, use, disclosure and protection of health information within the province of Alberta. Developing, leading and communicating on data / information governance to support the continued development of the Alberta Electronic Health Record (ABEHR). Providing expert leadership and support to Alberta Health, the health system in Alberta, other government sectors and affiliated stakeholders within Alberta on health information legislation and the development of the ABEHR system. Leading, developing, and making decisions and participating in complex issues related to the collection, use, disclosure and protection of health information as required to support new and developing initiatives including but not limited to the Alberta Electronic Health Record, shared electronic health records, the department's Business Intelligence Environment, My Health Records, Health System Refocus priorities and other provincial initiatives as required.  Acting in partnership with the Director as operational liaison with the OIPC regarding health information legislation policy, including the ABEHR. Leading and directing the management of the HIA Policy team.
