The Retail, Distribution and Programs branch under the Ministry of Affordability and Utilities manages the legislation, regulations and policies and programs related to the electricity and natural gas retail markets and distribution systems.

**Role Responsibilities**:

If so, this may be a great opportunity for you to join the Retail, Distribution and Programs Branch of the Ministry of Affordability & Utilities as a Manager.

Reporting to the Director, Distribution Policy, the Manager, Distribution Policy will focus on the following duties and responsibilities:

- Policy Development and Legislative support: Lead in the development of expert advice and recommendations for public policy that will directly enhance the design, structure and functioning of Alberta's electricity and natural gas (including hydrogen blending) distribution infrastructure and policy framework. Includes the design and development of policy that supports a safe, affordable and reliable electricity and natural gas system.
- Strategic Research and Advisory: Perform research and analysis related to policy options and regulations that may have an impact on Alberta's electricity sector. The Senior Policy Analyst will contribute strong analytic skills to the branch to facilitate provision of expert, strategic, and sound advice to senior management and staff to assist in the development of policies, legislation, and regulations in achieving the Government of Alberta's objectives.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the Branch/Division at events and on multi-stakeholder working groups as well as collaborate with other internal and external stakeholders, such as other GoA departments, municipal and federal government departments, distribution utilities, retailers, consumer groups, and independent agencies such as the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), the Market Surveillance Administrator (MSA), and the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) to gather information, understand issues, solicit feedback and develop solutions to address concerns and impacts to the electricity market.
- Project Management and Leadership: In collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, the Manager, Distribution Policy will lead policy development and implementation initiatives. This includes tasks such as developing terms of reference, project planning, budgeting, stakeholder identification, and project monitoring and reporting to ensure the effective and comprehensive delivery of the Government of Alberta's strategic objectives and outcomes for the electricity and natural gas (including hydrogen blending) systems.
- Issue Analysis and Advisory: Facilitate issue identification and risk management for Alberta's electric and natural gas (including hydrogen blending) distribution infrastructure and policy framework and render accurate advice to Branch Leadership on existing and emerging issues.
- Team Leadership and Continuous Improvement: Lead, coach, and mentor the team by delivering effective performance management, recognizing and celebrating achievements, and providing constructive, timely feedback. Additionally, identify and implement process improvements to enhance policy development and execution across the Branch.
- Reporting: Prepare reports, recommendations, briefing materials, and make presentations to internal and/or external stakeholders for information and/or decisions. Synthesize and translate critical information for policy and informational use.
