Regional Wellness Coordinator

Job Information
Located in Fort Simpson, the Regional Wellness Coordinator (RWC) reports to the Superintendent of Schools, and is responsible for developing and coordinating the successful implementation of the DDEC’s wellness directives/ initiatives across all nine schools of the Dehcho. This position will be a part of the Dehcho Wellness Unit (DWU) and the RWC will be instrumental in mentoring and guiding other members of the DWU.
These activities will focus primarily on promoting mental health among students, staff, and family members in the Dehcho region. This incumbent receives guidance and direction from the District Education Authorities (DEAs), and the Supervisor of Schools, as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of physical, psychological, and social effects of addictions, and family violence.
• Knowledge of health, lifestyle and wellness programs, services, and related activities.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with youth through different mediums.
• Ability to research and promote health activities in the area of mental, spiritual, and emotional health.
• Awareness of the importance and limitations of confidentiality, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality of personal information.
• Ability to acquire relevant knowledge of the NWT Mental Health Act, the Child and Family Services Act and other applicable NWT legislations.
• Understanding of the curriculum and an awareness of various issues associated with Social Emotional Learning.
• Ability to learn and apply knowledge of Mental Health First Aid for Northern Peoples.
• Ability to be self-directed, meet deadlines, and prioritize work.
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
A degree in the Social Sciences coupled with at least two (2) years of relevant experience.
