Join our client, the Furniture Division of the Rank Group of Companies, as a Controller and take on a key role on their accounting and finance team.
About the RoleThe Controller will be responsible for the recording and reporting of financial transactions, financial controls, and business analysis required for the day-to-day running of five retail stores and a distribution warehouse.
Key Responsibilities- Review transactions posted through the point of sale and general ledger and ensure all account reconciliations are completed on a monthly basis.
- Prepare the quarterly and annual working paper files and financial statements.
- Compile information for key performance indicators to be distributed to the owners to ensure their understanding of the current business results.
- Manage an Accounts Payable employee and provide support in ensuring they are able to complete their day-to-day responsibilities.
- Provide support to the ownership and management team in terms of compiling, interpreting, and understanding financial results.
- Oversee inventory control processes, including cycle counts and reconciliations.
- Regularly review, analyze, and assess systems, controls, and processes to make improvements.
- Conduct ad hoc reporting to assist with business decision-making.
- Proactively take actions to improve business results.
- Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting, etc.).
- 5+ years' experience of accounting experience (retail accounting experience is an asset).
- CPA designation is an asset, but not required.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build rapport with others.
- Solid understanding of full cycle accounting.
- Proven problem-solving abilities and experience.
- Genuine interest in business operations and contributing to the success of the team.
