Position Overview:

Our client is seeking a Business Unit Director (BUD) for their Buildings Engineering sector. This position will report directly to the Business Area Director. The ideal candidate should be an inspirational leader within the professional services industry.


Key Responsibilities:

As the Business Unit Director, your primary responsibility will be to drive the growth and profitability of the business unit, aligning with strategic goals and financial targets. Key responsibilities include:


Strategy Implementation:

  • Lead the business unit with full accountability for P&L performance and service quality.
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure service excellence and profitable growth within the unit, supporting overall business objectives.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop a diverse team of senior specialists, ensuring they have the necessary skills and motivation to meet program objectives.
  • Develop and communicate the business plan, ensuring the team understands their roles in achieving goals, with a focus on quality, global delivery, and integration.
  • Identify and target clients through excellent service delivery to drive organic revenue growth.


Building Strong Relationships and Teams:

  • Establish and maintain strong client relationships to understand their needs, ensuring satisfaction, improved retention, and revenue growth.
  • Coach and mentor discipline managers and service managers, ensuring projects are set up for success with proper governance, leading to improved client satisfaction.
  • Identify and promote talent within the business unit, directing individuals to appropriate development programs for career growth.
  • Lead decisions on resource utilization, maintaining unit composition integrity for optimized resource management.
  • Identify and manage risks in service delivery, ensuring compliance with governance processes for service excellence and client satisfaction.
  • Stay updated on market trends and client needs to identify emerging opportunities.
  • Foster internal collaboration to maximize cross-selling opportunities and resource sharing.
  • Create a safe, respectful work environment focused on health, well-being, and talent development.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer or Architect in Canada.
  • 10+ years of experience leading and growing a significant business function within a professional services firm.
  • Proven ability to inspire and lead multidisciplinary teams with a common purpose.
  • High level of intellectual, professional, and interpersonal agility and flexibility.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively at all organizational levels, particularly senior levels.
  • Strong technical knowledge to recognize and manage risk in running a design-led Business Unit.
  • Well-developed commercial skills, with a sound knowledge of the industry and demonstrated entrepreneurial behavior.
