BSG customizes services to the exact needs and locations of clients, ensuring that solutions meet precise specifications, including logistics, crew transfers, housekeeping, catering, and the fulfillment of all HSE requirements.


The Opportunity


The purpose of this Procedure is to define and detail the Authority and Responsibility of the 2nd Mate whilst he is serving on board the Company's vessels.


Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

General Tasks:

  • Responsible to assist Master while acting as Navigation Officer and executing bridge watches.
  • Responsible for assisting the Chief Mate with cargo operations, executing loading and discharging watches.
  • Familiarize with navigation instruments regulations and work procedures pertaining to tasks assigned and/or to be executed under the assigned responsibility.

Special Tasks:

  • Updating of charts and all relevant sailing instructions. All corrections shall be entered in the Chart Correction Logbook.
  • Work as General Radio Operator if appointed by Master.
  • The optimal route, distance, currents, and weather conditions considered.
  • Distances estimated speed and sailing time.
  • Preparation and checking of all charts and sailing information for the voyage intended.
  • If on duty prior to arrival/departure, shall carry out function tests and controls on the bridge, reporting the state of readiness to the Master.
  • The 2nd Mate is responsible for the following documentation:
  • Chart log
  • Voyage reports, Port logs
  • Ship's library
  • Keep radio watches at sea.
  • Obtain weather forecasts with regular intervals and if in port prior to departure.
  • To report illness reports in coordination with the Chief Mate.
  • To prepare monthly wages account with necessary reports. To prepare pay off when signing off crew.
  • Take part in the safety culture on board.

Qualifications

  • Holing 2ND mate COC
  • Relevant experience on Passenger. RO-RO/ cruise ship will be an add on
  • Valid Seafarers Medical certificate
  • Valid STCW courses
  • MED A2 / MED A3 and ROC-MC
  • ECDIS generic training
  • Advanced First Aid an asset
  • Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test prior to hiring and potential random tests throughout employment with prior notice.
  • Excellent comprehension and command of the English language; (written & verbal).
  • Reliable mode of transportation & valid class 5 driver's license.
  • Bridge watch rating, SVMO, and Simulated electronic navigation Limited all considered an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Repetitive, physical activity involved (walking, kneeling, reaching, lifting)
  • Lifting light to medium weight (up to 20 too 50lbs)
  • Exposure to environmental elements including extreme weather conditions.
