Monday-Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm

Expectations:

This is an all-encompassing role; you will wear many hats, all the way from payroll clerk to payroll manager.

You not only welcome the opportunity to be fully active in the day to day functions of the payroll department, it's your preference.

You have exceptional knowledge and qualifications to support a team of payroll professionals.

Payroll Manager Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Ten years' experience in full cycle payroll; with 3-5 of those years as a supervisor/manager.
  • Experience in the construction industry is an asset. Experience in a unionized payroll environment is an asset.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is required.
  • Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation is an asset.
  • Completion of postsecondary education in Accounting or Business is an asset.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Specifically strong in Excel).
  • Excellent knowledge of payroll principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with Service Canada processes and procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge of income tax forms, ROE's, T4's, health benefits programs, vacation pay, RRSP, Pensions, WCB, etc.
  • Knowledge and working understanding of the Alberta Employment Standards Code.
  • Proven leader with strong coaching and mentoring skills.
  • High degree of quality in regards to; attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to keep a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Extremely reliable, mature and professional.
  • Highly resourceful, intuitive and flexible.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask, as well as work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong aptitude for Payroll systems, experience with Explorer Contract Manager is an asset.

Payroll Manager Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Manage fullcycle hourly payroll ensuring pay for employees is accurate and ontime; payroll cycles are biweekly pay runs.
  • Manage two (2) Collective Bargaining Agreements within the payroll system and ensure the organization is complying with those agreements.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to the payroll team and oversee the daytoday operations and effectiveness of the payroll staff.
  • Reconcile account balances for the purpose of maintaining accurate reporting and complying with related policies, practices and/or regulations.
  • Researches discrepancies of payroll information and/or documentation (e.g. time sheets, leave time, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedures prior to processing.
  • Professionally responds to questions and provide information to managers, staff, and departments on payroll matters.
  • Maintains awareness of current payroll legislation and coordinates policy, system and or other required changes as they develop.
  • Manages government remittances and provides summaries and reports.
  • Year end T4 balancing and reporting.
