We are currently seeking one full-time contract Finance Assistant to work with our Finance team as part of the Canada Summer Jobs program


This role is a part of the Canada Summer Jobs initiative to support youth in obtaining quality temporary work experiences.

As a Finance Assistant, you will report to the Finance Manager and perform finance-related administrative duties and support the program with duties as outlined below.

You'll perform a variety of important tasks that make each day new and exciting, and you'll belong to a team that supports and respects each other as we work together to make a difference within our organization.


Status: 8 week contract (anticipated contract dates will fall between June 10, 2024 and August 30, 2024); 30 hours a week in a hybrid working model

Hourly Rate:
$17.55

Location:
This position is based out of our Hurontario Street, Brampton office.

Although we operate within a hybrid workplace model, staff are required to have on-site and/or community presence as per program and client needs.


What You Will Do:

  • Support the Finance team as require, utilizing Excel to provide solid information for expenses analysis and future budgeting
  • Maintain Accounts Department records
  • Review and check internal expenses and external invoices to ensure accuracy
  • Develop a folder system to improve new vendor information
  • Complete and record an agencywide inventory of assets such as computers, cell phones, etc.
  • Implement measures for asset security
  • Improve quality of existing services to our community

What You Need to Join Our Team

must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Must be able to work all 8 weeks consecutively

Additional Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or a graduate of a postsecondary program in Business, Finance or Accounting
  • Previous administrative experience, with Finance databases is an asset
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to approach, listen, build trust, and communicate across diverse cultures and intersectionality. Willingness to continually improve understanding around cultural competence.
  • Openness to operate from an antiracist, antioppressive, 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and intersectional framework
  • Fluency in a second language, including ASL (American Sign Language) is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently in a multitask environment and to prioritize tasks in a manner that meets staff needs and program objectives
  • Proof of administered fullseries Health Canada approved COVID19 vaccination prior to start date. If unable to be vaccinated for reasons relating to protected grounds under the Code, completed medical or religious exemption must be provided.
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) report
