About you:


You are an enthusiastic, highly organized people person with a passion for working with diverse groups of people, older adults, and those living with dementia or cognitive impairment.

You have experience making connections within your community and facilitating educational programming. You enjoy working with a multi-disciplinary team and utilize your excellent interpersonal skills. You are a natural with computers and your written, verbal and presentation skills are first-rate. You manage your time well and you are able to problem-solve through challenging situations and unexpected circumstances.

Position Summary:


In this position, the Public Education Coordinator is responsible for the delivery of the educational programs of the Society including public education and skills development training to a full range of target groups.

The Coordinator will also increase public awareness of the Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners through collaboration on the development of a Communications Plan as it relates to Health Promotion; supporting the Society's communications functions and initiatives; and informing the public and stakeholders through educational programming regarding the symptoms and long-term effects of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.

The Coordinator will coordinate other training events for the public, health professionals, and volunteers, in cooperation with the Volunteer Services Coordinator.


Duties and Responsibilities

Education

  • Work collaboratively with the Manager of Education and other PEC's to design and facilitate public education presentations in the community to raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias;
  • Partner with colleagues in the community, educational institutions, and other relevant organizations in the development and/or implementation of dementiarelated education activities, including training events for caregivers, volunteers, community agencies, service groups and staff;
  • Design and coordinate training events for a variety of target groups (e.g. students, volunteers, professionals, community members, longterm care facility staff, etc.) as required and with relevant Alzheimer Society Southwest Partner staff, to improve dementia care and awareness;
  • Prepare an annual education plan for the Society in conjunction with the Manager of Education and relevant staff;
  • Contribute to model provincial programs in conjunction with Alzheimer Society of Ontario (e.g. Finding Your Way);
  • Act as a resource for inquiries from the general public and for the Society re: the Society's programs and services;
  • Maintain a current knowledge of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias and current resources; be prepared to upgrade skills and knowledge as required;
  • Maintain Resource Centre should be kept current, accurate, well organized, and neat. New materials should be added to meet the needs of our target groups and the community's needs. Resources should be reviewed to determine quality, accuracy and suitability;
  • Deliver all education programs both inperson and virtually;
  • Deliver education surrounding Finding Your Way and Dementia Friendly Communities;
  • Work collaboratively with the Manager of Education and relevant staff to plan and implement initiatives for Alzheimer Awareness Month;
  • Asist in the facilitation of the First Link Learning Series as required through the year;
  • Report health promotion stats in database for monthly reporting.
  • Work as an effective member of a staff and volunteer team.

Communications/Public & Media Relations

  • Contribute to internal and external educational communications in conjunction with the Manager of Communication/Marketing; assist in writing articles on chapter programs and events, as requested;
  • Assist with publicity for education and program events, as necessary;
  • Collaborate with Manger of Education/Manger of Communications and other staff on the development of communications materials and review
