Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Marine Science Outreach Coordinator to join our team at the University of the Virgin Islands. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive outreach and environmental education program that promotes marine conservation and sustainability in the Virgin Islands.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and coordinate outreach and education programs for diverse audiences, including students, educators, scientists, and community members.
  • Collaborate with local stakeholders, including fishermen, educators, and natural resource managers, to promote marine conservation and sustainability.
  • Design and implement educational materials, including print and digital media, to promote marine conservation and sustainability.
  • Work closely with the VIMAS District Outreach Coordinator to ensure effective program implementation and coordination.
  • Develop and manage budgets, grants, and other funding sources to support program activities.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse audiences through face-to-face conversations, email, social media, radio, and print media.
Requirements
  • Master of Science degree in marine science or related field, or Bachelor of Science degree in marine science or related field with 2 years experience.
  • Two years experience related to public outreach and environmental education.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Caribbean marine and terrestrial habitats and associated organisms.
  • Outgoing personality and ability to work with diverse community members.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Lifeguard certification.
  • Social media management experience.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Driver's License with ability to drive a 15-passenger van.
  • Technical writing experience for grants and reports.
  • Experience working with diverse audiences of different ages.
  • Experience with fundraising and donor relations.
  • Photo and video editing skills.
  • Experience with IRB applications.
  • Ability to swim and/or scuba dive.
Physical Demands

This position may require the person to swim, snorkel, scuba dive, stand, sit, lift heavy objects, work on boats, and work in and under the water under strenuous environmental conditions for extended lengths of time. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds. Must have own transportation.
