We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our team as an Extension Specialist II - Marine Conservation and Education. This is a full-time position that will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive outreach and environmental education programs in marine science and conservation.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and coordinate a comprehensive outreach and environmental education program that includes marine habitat conservation, human impacts on coastal resources, and the importance of marine protected areas for the sustainability of fishery resources.
- Work with diverse stakeholders, including local fishermen, educators, students, natural resource managers, and legislators, to promote marine conservation and education.
- Develop and implement educational materials, including print and digital media, to promote marine conservation and education.
- Collaborate with the University of the Virgin Islands' Center for Marine and Environmental Studies to advance marine conservation and education efforts.
- Manage and maintain data and records related to outreach and education programs.
- Communicate effectively with various audiences, including students, educators, scientists, natural resource managers, and legislators, through face-to-face conversations, email, social media, radio, and print media.
- Master of Science degree in marine science or a related field, or Bachelor of Science degree in marine science or a related field with 2 years of experience.
- Two years of experience related to public outreach and environmental education.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Caribbean marine and terrestrial habitats and associated organisms.
- Outgoing personality and ability to work with diverse communities.
- Lifeguard certification.
- Social media management experience.
- Fluency in Spanish.
- Driver's License with the ability to drive a 15-passenger van.
- Technical writing experience for grants and reports.
- Experience working with diverse audiences of different ages.
- Experience with fundraising and donor relations.
- Managing summer programs for youth.
- Photo and video editing experience.
- Experience with IRB applications.
- Ability to swim and/or scuba dive.
This position may require the person to swim, snorkel, scuba dive, stand, sit, lift heavy objects, work on boats, and work in and under the water under strenuous environmental conditions for extended lengths of time. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds. Must have own transportation.
