We acknowledge that we live and work on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nations, Anishinaabe Nation, Huron-Wendat and the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. Sheridan is situated on these lands, and it is our collective responsibility to honour and respect those who have gone before us, those who are here, and those who have yet to come. We are grateful for the opportunity to be working on this land.
Diversity is Sheridan’s strength and fuels our commitment to excellence. We're deeply committed to advancing equity, diversity, inclusion and decolonization across our institution. We work hard to build a safe and supportive community where everyone has a strong sense of belonging and feels empowered to bring their full selves, talents and capabilities to campus, knowing their unique contributions are valued. Sheridan seeks applicants who embrace our values of equity, anti-racism, and inclusion. As such, we encourage applications from qualified candidates who have been historically disadvantaged and marginalized, including those who identify as First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit/Inuk, Black, members of racialized communities, persons with disabilities, women and/or 2SLGBTQ+.
Every member of the Sheridan community is passionate about the transformational role we play in people's lives. At Sheridan, you'll find colleagues who are collaborators, faculty and staff who are genuinely student-centric, students who are curious and driven, and a place that is known for fueling creativity and innovation and for its game-changing ethos. Sheridan is the most degree intensive college in the province, leaders among Canada's top 50 research colleges, and currently ranked No. 1 on the Forbes list of Canada's top 300 employers.
Reporting to the AVP and Chief Human Resources and Facilities Officer, and serving as an advisor to senior administration, the Director, Employee Relations, Health and Wellness plays a pivotal role in creating a culture of innovation and collaboration at Sheridan by fostering strong employee and labour relations, and oversight of health and wellness programs that enhance the well-being and safety of the Sheridan community. By leading teams of HR specialists and partnering with union representatives, the Director ensures that workplace practices are both equitable and adaptable to the evolving needs of employees and the institution. Their work is integral to promoting a healthy, inclusive, and engaging environment where collaboration thrives in support of Sheridan’s strategic goals. This role leads a team that plays a primary role in creating a vibrant and sustainable workplace culture, driving creativity and key business outcomes for the institution.
The ideal candidate holds a degree or diploma in a related field and brings a wealth of expertise in navigating complex workplace dynamics, preferably in the public sector. They possess a strong foundation in labour contracts, legislation, and current trends in labour/management issues, demonstrating the ability to balance workplace equity, management rights, and the employee experience. Their leadership is marked by expertise in investigations, strategic advisory, coaching, and an ability to mobilize action and engage teams. Additionally, they have extensive experience in negotiations, mediation, dispute resolution, and developing inclusive policies, alongside a proven track record in strategic planning, project management, and business acumen, including budgeting and complex report writing. Certified HR Professional or Leader designation (CHRL or CHRP) will be considered a strong asset.
