Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) has been awarded the design and early works of the Scarborough Subway Extension project. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city.



As part of the Scarborough Transit Connect project, we are looking for a qualified Design Coordinator - Utilities, to join our team. Reporting to the PDB Coordination Manager, the Design Coordinator - Utilities, will be responsible for liaising with the design team, the construction team and project management team as well as other members of the project team on a regular basis for this progressive design build project.



What You Will Do:

  • Check and seek the Project information from the Engineering Consultant, internally from the construction team, from other partners and from the Client, to have a good design acknowledgement from the Project and to share with the other people involved into the Project.
  • Prepare narratives, and visual presentations for the design presentation meetings.
  • Support the preparation of project deliverables and tracking of submittals.
  • Coordinate technical and administrative activities and liaise among different stakeholders.
  • Monitor and track designers’ performance in accordance with schedule and track design changes.
  • Prepare and review the technical submittals ensuring that they are issued in accordance with the specified design requirements and quality standards.
  • Review the design submissions for quality and scope compliance, identifying design or interdisciplinary issues, ensuring that constructability and construction’s means and methods are coordinated with the Construction Team.
  • Identify potential problems that may occur during the construction process which were not identified in the design and coordinate with the Designer and the Construction team to find a solution.
  • Manage and track design documentation, submittals, and alert the team member of risks related to potential delays.
  • Prepare, issue, and monitor RFI’s.
  • Facilitate effective communication between the design team and construction team.
  • Other duties related to design management.
  • Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.



Experience You Will Bring:

  • A degree / diploma in Civil Engineering or Construction Project Management from a recognized institution.
  • Similar / relevant work experience would be considered an asset.
  • Technical Skills: CAD (Autodesk AutoCAD), BIM software (Autodesk Navisworks), Bluebeam, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and MS Project)
  • Reasonable of knowledge of OBC and other municipal standards and regulations would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of design and construction of civil and utilities works and experience liaising with utilities companies.
  • Previous working experience in Rail Projects or Transit is considered an asset.
  • A strong eye for design details and the ability to coordinate civil and utilities design and assist in making design-driven decisions.
  • Good communication and documentation skills.
  • Able to lead discussions with the partners, clients, and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated strong team work ethics and decision-making skills.
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced environment.
