Who we are 

The BC Community Alliance (BCCA) is a local Black-led, community-based, organization, formed in 2019 and registered as a non-profit in 2020, dedicated to addressing the structural inequities created by racism, especially anti-Black racism, within education settings in British Columbia. The organization was born out of a crisis in our community, following a racist bomb threat at a Vancouver high school, Lord Byng Secondary, and recognizing the broad harm that occurred not only to Black students in the school but also felt within the broader community, especially other Black community members. 


Although the 'Lord Byng incident' was a foundational moment in the formation of the BC Community Alliance, we are more accurately understood as a response to the racism that is felt by many racialized students.


Who we’re looking for

BC Community Alliance (BCCA) is looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Administrative Assistant. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our ‘virtual’ office. The ideal candidate will be proficient in administrative tasks, possess strong communication skills, and demonstrate the ability to handle a variety of responsibilities with accuracy and professionalism.


What you’ll do
  • Provide administrative support to ensure efficient operation of our virtual business
  • Maintain an organized electronic filing system within Google Workspace
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for incoming emails to the BCCA info inbox, triaging communications to the appropriate parties as necessary
  • Draft, proofread, and edit correspondence, memos, and other documents as needed
  • Input and maintain accurate records in databases and spreadsheets
  • Organize and update electronic files and documents, ensuring accessibility and confidentiality
  • Assist BCCA managers with various administrative tasks, including scheduling meetings, preparing documents, and coordinating projects
  • Conduct research and gather information for various projects and presentations
  • Assist in planning and organizing company events, meetings, and special projects
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure seamless operation of office processes
  • Supporting company HR and payroll functions as needed
  • Other duties as assigned 


 What you bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Proven experience as an administrative assistant or work experience in a similar role
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in completing tasks
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • Discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information
