Senior Bookkeeper (IFS)
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Director of the
Integrated Financial Services, the Senior Bookkeeper is responsible for
ensuring the integrity of accounting information by maintaining client records,
CRA interaction, payroll, and regular financial reports to management. The
Senior Bookkeeper supervises a team of bookkeeping staff, monitoring their
workflow assignments and performance, as well as providing coaching and
mentoring.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
§ Managing
the on-boarding of new bookkeeping clients
§
Providing monthly bookkeeping services
to clients
§ Processing
bi-weekly/ semi-monthly payroll for clients
§ Preparing
monthly journal entries and reconciliations for balance sheet accounts as well
financial and operating statements
§ Preparing
and filing of GST returns (monthly, quarterly, annual, and Quick Method)
§ Maintaining
regular contact with clients and taxation authorities (CRA and provincial
government)
§ Checking
and verifying source documents such as invoices, receipts, computer printouts
§ Preparing
financial statements (trial balance, income statement, balance sheet)
§ Maintaining
internal control systems
§ Managing
accounts payable and accounts receivable
§ Assisting
with budget preparation
§ Maintaining
complete filing system to support financial records
§
Supervising and mentoring a team of
bookkeeping staff
§
Overseeing workflow processes of
bookkeeping staff
§ Other ad hoc projects
(process improvement, best practices) as required
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
§
Post-secondary diploma in
accounting, commerce, or finance plus a minimum of 5 years of full cycle
bookkeeping experience
§
Enrollment or completion of the
Canadian Payroll Association Designation program would be considered an asset
Skills
& Knowledge:
§
Knowledge of Generally Accepted
Accounting Principles and Procedures (GAAP)
§ Knowledge
of relevant legislation and regulatory requirements
§ High
level of proficiency with MS Office applications, Sage (Simply), QBO,
Quickbooks, and Caseware
§
Excellent knowledge of payroll, accounts
payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliation, GST and tax reconciliation,
journal entry posting and financial statement preparation
§
Strong understanding of business
tax worksheets
