**Accounting Associate** Union Benefits is Canada's only third-party administration company owned and built by the union trust funds we work for. The accounting department at Union Benefits provides accounting services to the Trust Funds to ensure timely and pristine financial information. **Primary Responsibilities**: - Maintain various financial spreadsheets designed to record and monitor financial information relating to the trust funds. - Perform banking duties, including printing and importing of cheques; sending transaction data files to the bank; using our proprietary contractor remittance/data collection tool to create bank deposit slips and electronic fund transfer files; and assembling/filing bank statements. - Assist with entry and posting of monthly journal entries to record financial activity and related general ledger account reconciliations. - Generate monthly account receivable statements and balance accounts receivable report to general ledger. - Assist with year-end procedures, including gathering and assembling information, performing reconciliations, and answering auditor inquiries. - Interface with our proprietary member database system that tracks member and employer contributions. - Work closely with other members of the Accounting Department to provide timely and pristine financial information. - Work collaboratively with other departments at the Company’s main Waterloo office to ensure financial information accuracy. - Occasional interaction with Contractors / Employers to resolve accounts receivable matters. **Experience, Skills, and Education**: - Accounting Certificate/Diploma (maybe a recent graduate of an accounting program with up to three years of accounting related experience) - Reliable, organized, and eager to learn. - Strong working knowledge of Word and Excel. - Familiarity with Sage/ACCPAC an asset. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Strong analytical skills with ability to handle problem-solving with perseverance and accuracy. - The ability to prioritize competing tasks.
