Some of what you will do:
The Manager, PR and Communications is responsible for elevating the Staples Canada story and building brand awareness through thought leadership pieces, speaking engagements, external facing content and PR. The Public Relations responsibilities include driving strategy, planning and execution of major product and corporate PR programs and initiatives for Staples Canada, The Working and Learning Company. This role is also responsible for developing strategies and projects that resonate both internally and externally. Partnership building with internal and external clients is vital to this role.

**Specifically, You Will**:

- Ensuring knowledge of marketing strategy, brand, image, the customer and the market is appropriately reflected in all communications and all content meets brand, company and legal guidelines.
- Manage the release of Staples Canada content and information for external consumption - i.e. intended for consumers
- Manage and execute local media relations strategies
- Support the development of marketing strategy and external communication of CSR initiatives nationally and in the local communities we operate in
- Work closely with communities with an objective of elevating local community stories and be the local contact for press with respect to content that impacts the Staples brand
- Manage media monitoring and reporting
- Communicate on behalf of the company to members of the press on matters impacting the brand, and filter messaging to align with strategy and brand identity.
- Act as the primary contact for local media and the lead on coordinating on-brand media opportunities that support the national and local objectives.
- Supporting other Marketing/ PR projects as required.
- Manage media and coordinate details for store and vendor events relating to PR and marketing initiatives events, retail contests and grand openings
- Support all cause marketing campaigns and work closely with all stakeholders to ensure local community programs are marketed and communicated effectively
- Coordinates with external vendors for such things as technology, video and editing.
- Liaises and coordinates with any public relations vendors/firms as required in times of crisis or increased visibility/important messaging. Ensures consistency in messaging.

Some of what you need:

- University degree or college diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or Business Administration preferred.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with a varied group of people and personalities.
- Displays leadership and initiative in order to work through others to complete and lead projects.
- Outstanding communication and marketing skills: emphasis on communication strategies, written skills (including plain language) and creative direction.
- Ability to write business-oriented, tactical communications plans and materials.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives on an ongoing basis, meeting urgent deadlines where required.
- Ability to clearly and convincingly present and position ideas and concepts.
- Excellent interpersonal skills: must be able to influence and negotiate with people from diverse backgrounds and levels throughout the organization.
- Outstanding ability to evaluate the clarity of information and its suitability for customer-facing staff.
- Ability to manage several projects and programs at once with attention to detail and follow-through.
- Ability to see the big picture and identify opportunities to link projects, initiatives or communications together.
- Ability to build relationships with business partners to reach mutually beneficial solutions.
- Understanding of industry and other regulations that affect marketing communications processes and outputs is an asset.
- Advanced computer literacy skills, particularly with MS Office, HTML, and graphics packages, and webinar technology.
- Bilingual (French) an asset.
- 5 years related work experience in a Communications role.
- Experience in managing interactions with multiple stakeholders and parties.
