**Company Background**

Opiikapawiin Services LP (“Opiikapawiin”) was established by a partnership of 24 First Nations in northwestern Ontario. The 24 First Nations partnership is also majority owner in Wataynikaneyap Power, a transmission company building 1800km of new transmission line to connect remote First Nations to the provincial grid. Opiikapawiin is primarily responsible for administering projects and programs for Wataynikaneyap Power relating to community engagement, community readiness, education & training, business readiness, stakeholder engagement, communications, and capacity building. Opiikapawiin will also support the First Nations partnership in the management of its investment in Wataynikaneyap Power, which includes raising equity for the First Nations interest in the transmission project.

Opiikapawiin has developed a strategy for providing employment supports to community members as they prepare for employment on the Wataynikaneyap Power project. To ensure that the supports are coordinated and delivered with excellence, Opiikapawiin is creating the role of the Employment Supports Coordinator. The role will report to Indigenous Participation Manager

The Employment Supports Coordinator will represent Opiikapawiin Services and Wataynikaneyap Power in a professional manner at all times. The person in this role will work directly with the teams from Opiikapawiin Services.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

The specific responsibilities of the role include:

- Implements the Employment Supports program by assisting clients to obtain and maintain employment.
- Assist new employees by providing orientation on policies, procedures, and other conditions to employment.
- Provide individualized follow up support to assist clients in maintaining their employment,
- Advocate and provide timely interventions on behalf of the client.
- Develop and monitor individual employment plan with clients.
- develop and monitor the integrated Program plan (timelines, enrollment, mapping, and matching community needs) for delivery of the Employment Supports Program
- Work with Community Liaisons to manage Program needs and details at community level.
- Work with Indigenous Recruitment and Retention Advisor to flow Employment Supports Program participants to job specific training.
- Work with Wataynikaneyap EPC Contractor and community businesses to flow Employment Supports Program participants to available employment opportunities for consideration.
- Create and manage communications systems and tracking of employment issues.
- Ensure client files are up to date for employment opportunities.

**Qualifications**

Education and Experience
- College Diploma or University degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Human Resources, Management, Communications, or a related field from an accredited college plus a minimum of 4 years in a similar role with responsibilities for Employment Supports activities (Community Readiness, Education, Training, and Skills Development, Economic Participation, and Communications) and relevant work experience.

**Required Skills**:

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Excel)
- Knowledge of employment databases (Labour Pool and Staketracker) and Ministry databases - Cam’s, Gateway, etc. or ability to learn
- Possess strong collaboration and communication skills
- Possess high level of attention to detail
- Knowledge of skilled trades industry specifically energy sector
- Knowledge of apprenticeship process and requirements for skilled trades
- Be self directed and able to forecast and take initiative to identify emerging issues and problem solve
- Ability to work in a fast -paced environment.
- Ability to meet deadlines on a timely basis
- Must be knowledgeable and understanding of the traditions and protocols of the First Nations who make up the Wataynikaneyap Project
- Be able to speak one of the community dialects is an asset.
- Ideally be based in Thunder Bay
- Travel as necessary

Other Experience
- Ability to work effectively with First Nation communities and with Indigenous Peoples
- Demonstrated experience with working harmoniously with First Nation communities, members and partners on infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of Indigenous culture in Northwestern Ontario and protocols
- Knowledge of the economic, social, and political environment of Northwestern Ontario and/or experience with remote community realities
- Indigenous languages spoken in Northwestern Ontario is considered an important asset
- Valid Ontario Class “G” license
