**Position Title**: Human Resources Assistant - Full-Time, 1 Year Contract

**Position Description**:The Human Resources Assistant performs a range of duties supporting the Human Resources Department. The duties consist of recruitment, safety, regulatory compliance and other HR programs and functions. The Human Resources Assistant is expected to maximize the effectiveness of Fort William First Nation staff, and assure that their activities are well planned, coordinated and directed.

**Major Responsibilities**:

- Assist with the day to day functions of the Human Resources department including recruitment, WSIB, attendance, discipline and Employee relations
- Provide input and support to the Human Resources Manager and Sr. Advisor in the general operations of the Human Resources Department
- Monitor attendance and absenteeism through an Employee Tracking System
- Draft discipline letters to employees
- Draft employee lay-offs and transfers
- Recruit, post jobs, screen resumes, conduct reference checks and interview potential new employees
- Assist the Human Resources Manager and Sr. Advisor with a variety of issues, re: legislative, special assignment, etc.
- Attend Employee/Management meetings as required
- Assist with internal and external training initiatives
- Advise and assist Directors, Managers, Supervisors and staff on interpretation and administration of personnel policies, processes and programs
- Educate both current and prospective employees on company policies regarding job duties, working conditions, safety, wages, career advancement opportunities, employee benefits and recreation programs
- Maintain accurate records and compile statistical reports relating to personnel data, e.g. hires, transfers, absenteeism rates, and performance appraisals
- Ensure effective exit interviews and provide management with analysis and recommendations
- Provide resolutions to employee relation issues (e.g. employee complaints and harassment allegations)
- Ensure the compatibility of applicants to job positions
- Provide recommendations for policies and processes
- Provide research as requested
- Keep job descriptions current
- Provide general information and assistance internally and externally over the phone, electronically and in person
- Provide clerical and administrative support to the Human Resources Manager and Sr. Advisor
- Compile and update employee records (hard and soft copies)
- Coordinate HR projects (meetings, training, surveys, etc.) and take minutes
- Deal with employee requests regarding HR issues, rules, and regulations
- Assist Human Resources Manager and Sr. Advisor with complaints and grievances procedures
- Coordinate and schedule interviews for closed job postings
- Assist in the investigation and reporting of accidents/incidents
- Provide administrative support to the Workplace Health and Safety Committee such as scheduling meetings and taking meeting minutes
- All general office support duties
- Complete other duties and projects as assigned

**Qualifications**:

- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience in human resources would be considered an asset
- Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to work independently from time to time.
