Clinical Social Worker

As a Clinical Social Worker with Nova Scotia Health Authority, you will work with children and adolescents up to the 19th birthday, providing assessment and treatment for mental health or concurrent disorders. This role is part of a multi-discipline service that includes psychology, social work, psychiatry, addiction clinical therapists, and behavioral interventionists. Services can include individual, family-based, or group therapy. The successful candidate will be a team player who works flexibly to best meet the needs of clients and the service. The social worker will also create and provide evidence-based educational presentations to clients, families, other agencies, and fellow staff members on topics relating to mental health and concurrent disorders. Evening and daytime hours, as well as travel, are required for this position.
About You- A Master's of Social Work with a specialization in a clinical or mental health stream is required. If not available, a Master's Degree in Social Work from an acceptable educational institution that can demonstrate a significant portion of coursework focused on mental health disorders and treatment is acceptable.
- Registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Work is required.
- Two years of clinical experience in an inpatient/outpatient mental health setting, providing independent assessment and treatment of adult mental health disorders, is required.
- Competence in assessment, intervention (individual, family, and group), and research is required.
- Specialized knowledge of acute and persistent mental illness and concurrent disorders is required.
- Knowledge and competence in evidenced-based interventions such as CBT, and risk assessment are required.
- Evidence of knowledge and ability to complete mental health assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment using the DSM-5 is required.
- Working knowledge of psychotropic pharmacology is required.
- Understanding of substance use, abuse, and dependency is required.
- Knowledge of standards that guide the profession is required.
- Knowledge of and ability to link to community resources is required.
- Strong client focus and ability to build solid client/practitioner relationships is required.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation is required.
- Commitment to promoting a culture that supports safety, ethical practices, and organizational health is required.
- Competencies in other languages are an asset, with French preferred.
- This is a permanent full-time position, requiring 75 hours biweekly.
The hourly rate for this position is $37.31-$49.05. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
