We are seeking a skilled Occupational Therapist to join our team in the Inpatient Psychiatry Unit at Fraser Health. As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the rehabilitation process.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough occupational therapy assessments, consultations, and interventions to maximize patient function and promote independence.
- Determine the most effective use of recognized occupational therapy assessment tools and conduct necessary assessments.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams to develop individualized treatment goals and provide education to patients and caregivers.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions using cognitive, behavioral, psycho-educational, problem-solving, and crisis intervention methods.
- Prepare written assessments and reports, including recommendations for patient success in rehabilitation.
- Maintain accurate client records, documenting assessments, progress notes, and reports according to established professional standards.
- Promote continuous quality improvement by participating in local committees and planning bodies, engaging in program evaluation, and identifying opportunities for improved effectiveness.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- A baccalaureate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
- One year of recent experience in a psychiatric setting or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Current full registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC).
- Eligibility for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists - BC (CAOT-BC).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, families, healthcare teams, and community agency personnel.
- A thorough knowledge of psychosocial aspects of mental health issues, DSM IV criteria, behavioral management strategies, relevant legislation, and rehabilitation practices in psychiatry.
Compensation
The salary for this position is approximately $83,000-$110,000 per year, depending on experience.
