About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Pediatric Psychiatric Liaison Nurse to join our team at Fraser Health. In this role, you will work collaboratively with an interprofessional care team to provide person-centered and recovery-oriented care to psychiatric and concurrent disordered pediatric patients in Emergency Departments.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will perform intake assessments, offer crisis intervention, and provide input into the care of pediatric psychiatric patients awaiting transfer for further assessment or inpatient admission. You will also assist with ensuring effective patient flow through collaboration with Emergency Departments and/or inpatient unit interprofessional teams, community mental health and substance use interprofessional teams, and other community service providers.

Responsibilities
  • Screens psychiatric referrals from various sources, gathers background information, and determines service priorities.
  • Performs psychosocial assessments, collects collateral related to patients' primary support groups, and completes emergency psychiatry patient assessments.
  • Develops care plans with final dispositions authorized by Emergency Room Physicians or consulting Psychiatrists and provides general and crisis counseling to patients and their families.
  • Maintains accurate records of assessments, care plans, observations, interventions, patient/family responses, outcomes/evaluations, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an approved school of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing.
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • One year's recent, related experience in an acute psychiatric setting, including experience working with an adolescent population.
