Mental Health Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join our Inpatient Psychiatry Unit team at Fraser Health Authority. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will provide person-centered and recovery-oriented care to patients with mental health and substance use disorders.

Job Description:
This role involves providing clinical leadership in evidence-based practices through direct care activities, including nursing assessments, crisis intervention, patient and family education, and health promotion activities. You will work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to identify patient needs, develop care plans, and implement interventions that promote patient autonomy, dignity, and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients
- Actively participate in and support the total therapeutic program of the unit
- Collect information from various sources using skills of observation, communication, and physical assessment to enable provision of appropriate nursing care
- Communicate and consult with members of the healthcare team about patients' care; set priorities, assign, and delegate tasks to support staff; participate in interprofessional conferences; explain plan of care to patients and their family
- Participate in quality improvement activities and research by identifying patient care issues and collecting data
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
- May require completion of a substance use certificate program
