Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Pediatric Psychiatric Liaison Nurse to join our team. As a Pediatric Psychiatric Liaison Nurse, you will work closely with the interprofessional care team to provide person-centered and recovery-oriented care to psychiatric and concurrent disordered pediatric patients in the Emergency Departments.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform intake assessments and offer crisis intervention to pediatric patients
  • Provide input into the care of pediatric psychiatric patients awaiting transfer for further assessment or inpatient admission
  • Assist with ensuring effective patient flow for assessed pediatric patients through collaboration with Emergency Departments and/or inpatient unit interprofessional teams
  • Develop care plans with final dispositions authorized by Emergency Room Physicians or consulting psychiatrists
  • Communicate and consult with Coordinators and other members of the interprofessional mental health and substance use team on patient care issues, resources, and discharge planning
  • Document assessments, care plans, observations, interventions, patient/family responses, outcomes/evaluations, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures
  • Liaise with appropriate departments and professionals and facilitate transition to aftercare by sharing emergency treatment outcomes and care plans with Mental Health & Substance Use staff
  • Act as a patient advocate by assisting patients and their family members to access appropriate community resources

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an approved school of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
  • One year's recent, related experience in an acute psychiatric setting, including experience working with an adolescent population, specialty training in adolescent psychiatry or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Valid BC Driver's license and access to a personal vehicle with appropriate business insurance
