Job Title: Community Support Counselor - Peer Specialist

Job Summary:

The Community Support Counselor - Peer Specialist is a key member of our multidisciplinary team, providing assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation support to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. This role requires a strong understanding of mental health legislation and reform, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation support to clients in their environment of choice
  • Act as a role model, promoting hope and empowerment in clients' recovery
  • Enhance team engagement with clients and provide education, support, and consultation to families
  • Crisis intervention support and reporting to the Manager of Hamilton ACTT 1

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) or related field
  • Minimum 3 years front-line care-taking experience in the community with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness
  • Significant lived personal experience with the Mental Health system
  • Familiarity with Mental Health Legislation and Reform and consumer/survivor issues

Working Conditions:

Rotating shifts Monday to Sunday; Days, Afternoons, Evenings and Weekends. Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
