Career and Guidance Counselor Job Description

About the Role:

Cégep Heritage College is seeking a highly skilled Career and Guidance Counselor to join our Student Services team. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in helping students achieve their academic and career goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Guidance and Support: Provide individualized guidance and support to students in their academic and career choices, helping them to identify their strengths and interests.
  • Program Information and Promotion: Inform and guide students on various programs offered at the college, including admission procedures and opportunities.
  • Professional Development and Career Exploration: Guide students in understanding different professions, including perspectives, working conditions, and evolution of tasks.
  • Case Studies and Team Collaboration: Participate in case studies as part of a multidisciplinary team, working collaboratively to support student success.
  • Event Planning and Coordination: Oversee the organization and realization of activities such as conferences, study days, and industrial visits.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Analyze, evaluate, and classify academic and career information for students, occasionally adapting it to meet their needs.
  • Test Administration and Interpretation: Administer and interpret aptitude tests, meeting with students to discuss results.
  • Student Services and Support: Participate in orientation and registration activities, meet with students who wish to leave their programs or the college, and contribute to the college's promotional activities.
  • Transition Support: Accompany students in the transition to the workplace, providing support with resume writing, selection interviews, and social media employment profiles.
  • Information Management: Verify and keep up-to-date the information appearing on conventional documents, the college's website, or Omnivox relating to guidance services.
  • University Visits and Partnerships: Coordinate university visits and participate in the information activities of universities and educational institutions.
  • Professional Development: Keep abreast of labor market trends and training programs.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant specialization such as Teaching, Guidance, School and Career Information, Psychology, etc.
  • Must be fluently bilingual in both English and French (written, spoken, and comprehension).
  • Must have computer software experience, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience related to the position will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Cégep system in the context of education in Québec will be considered an asset.
