Job Summary

The University of British Columbia seeks a highly skilled Research Grants and Compliance Specialist to join its Office of Research Services (ORS). This key role plays a critical part in ensuring the effective administration of sponsored research grants, adherence to university policies, and compliance with external regulations.

In this dynamic position, you will be responsible for managing a large portfolio of grant accounts, coordinating with faculty members, administrators, and sponsors. Your expertise will be crucial in interpreting funding agency policies, resolving complex issues, and communicating effectively with stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Administer a diverse portfolio of unrestricted and restricted grant accounts, prioritizing tasks and collaborating with various UBC departments and faculty units.
  • Ensure compliance with funding agency guidelines, UBC policies, and financial regulations by providing accurate and timely information.
  • Create and amend research grants using RISe and Workday, adhering to Sponsor and UBC's ethical, conflict of interest, and financial compliance requirements.
  • Follow up with researchers and administrators on annual compliance renewals, audit-requested items, and other essential tasks.
  • Interpret and navigate RISe and Workday grant and financial information for UBC faculty and staff, generating reports as needed.
  • Prepare budgetary reports and communicate with ORS Management and departments.
Requirements
  • A minimum of four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High school graduation, plus Certificate in Accounting or Payroll CPA Level 1.
  • Working knowledge of UBC's RISe system, Workday, and university research and finance policies.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision and prioritize tasks effectively.
