About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a skilled Health Care Social Worker to join our team. As a multifaceted role, the successful candidate will provide a diverse range of interventions to clients and their families, enabling them to achieve their optimal level of functioning and health.

The Health Care Social Worker will be responsible for psychosocial assessments, adjustment therapy, supportive therapy, crisis counselling, resource counselling, and discharge planning and case management. They will also be actively involved in advocacy, education, program planning, consultation, and collaboration on behalf of individuals and groups within the institution and community.

The ideal candidate will have a Master of Social Work degree from a recognized university, registration and membership in the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers and Canadian Association of Social Workers, and two years of clinical experience as a Social Worker. They will also have knowledge of the fundamentals of human behaviour, including systems theory, family dynamics, group dynamics, and theories of behaviour change.

The successful candidate will be able to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams. They will also have the ability to supervise undergraduate and graduate students in work placements and provide consultation based on an advanced level of education.

About You

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:

  • Master of Social Work degree from a recognized university
  • Registration and membership in the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers and Canadian Association of Social Workers
  • Two years of clinical experience as a Social Worker
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of human behaviour
  • Experience in oncology, grief and loss, advance care planning, end of life, disability, crisis intervention, caregiving, and an in-depth understanding of the continuum of care
  • Awareness of local community resources and agencies
  • Leap palliative care training preferred
  • Proven self-directed leadership
  • Advanced leadership training in working with people with developmental disabilities
  • Competencies in other languages preferred, French an asset
Hours

The successful candidate will work a long assignment full-time position with 75 hours bi-weekly. The position is approximately 18 months in duration and is a hybrid position, requiring work from home with some travel to Yarmouth Regional Hospital as required.

Compensation and Incentives

The successful candidate will be offered a competitive salary of $49.05 per hour. They may also be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
